Review of Episode 2: ...1...
10/06/2005
Sydney: "It's a funny thing about pregnancy. Hormones.
Whew."
So who's in the cryo freeze? Probably not Walt Disney. And
white hair means it probably isn't Vaughn. If Renee stole
the body, it must have something to do with Prophet Five.
Is it Bill Vaughn? Milo Rambaldi? It could be anyone who's
died in the past four years of the series, couldn't it? Oh,
my god, please don't let it be Lauren. :)
Much better than the premiere. I loved Sydney kicking Curtis
out the window. I also loved Dixon as an undercover hardass
and Weiss as his incompetent business manager, although it
made Weiss' departure to his new position in DC even more
jarring. (Did they have to write him out, too?)
Last episode, Renee Rienne; this episode, Tom Grace. We didn't
get much about him, except that he has no family, spent four
years in Special Ops, and has a temper. Plus whatever Jack
saw in his file that we didn't. Oh, yeah, and he was nice
enough to move desks when Weiss asked him to. I'm still confused
about the undercover blonde who works for Gordon Dean. Is
she our third new cast member? I'm sure we'll find out.
There was a new credit sequence, and Vartan is out of the
cast. Even though I knew it was coming, it still pissed me
off. I know, get over it, but I don't really want to deal
with no Vaughn, no Weiss, and three new characters; I feel
like Weiss did about Grace taking over Vaughn's desk. Am I
wrong to want Vaughn, Nadia and Irina instead? Can't we at
least have Sark back?
Bits and pieces:
-- It was implied that the order to kill Vaughn came from
someone Sydney knows.
-- There's something delightful about Jack as Sydney's childbirth
coach. Speaking of which, if Sydney is already in her second
trimester, shouldn't she be back at APO with a headset on
instead of in the field?
-- Jean Briault. Was that Sloane's old friend and colleague
that Roger Moore duped him into killing back in season one?
-- Note that scene about a "liberal rag" being
poisonous. Gee, we don't have a contentious political situation
in America right now, do we?
-- Sloane is still in jail. I never thought I'd say this,
but I miss him. I miss everybody.
-- As Greg Grunberg was running for the cockpit, I was having
"Lost" deja vu. Too bad he didn't get to pilot the
plane.
-- This week's itinerary: Amsterdam, D.C., and a stealth
plane over North Korea.
-- This week's hot look: Renee Rienne looks much better out
of that ratty red wig.
-- Sloane: "Revenge is ultimately a hollow pursuit,
Sydney." He should know.
-- Thug: "Sexy. So I'm being threatened by a waif and
a pregnant chick?"
-- Weiss: "Vaughn, Nadia, it just doesn't feel right."
He said it all.
-- Renee: "Number eight? I'm slipping. I used to be
number six." And she was nice enough to tell Sydney that
Vaughn was crazy about her. I think I like Renee.
-- Marshall (half asleep): "I'd love to, baby, but I'm
married" and, "I'm not having an affair." Carrie:
"I know you're not having an affair." Carrie knows
he works for the government. Why was he covering for something
he was doing for Sydney? Guilt, because he digs her?
-- Grace: "Seriously. Something has to be done about
your breath."
Probably three out of four spies, or close to it,
Billie
