Marshall provides many of the show's lighter moments with his cool gadgets and social ineptness. Here are some of the many gadgets he has demonstrated at SD-6:


Alias: Marshall's Gadgets, Season One

Pilot: Truth Be Told

  • RF scrambler [disrupts video] that looks like a cigarette lighter.
  • Camera that looks like a lipstick [currently has 42 snaps but he wants to get it to 47, since it's a prime number].

Episode 2: So It Begins

  • A sleeping disc that knocks you out on contact.
  • Memorable Marshall moment: "I accidentally touched this the other day and I fell and knocked my head on the desk and was out cold for twenty minutes. You guys should see this." [points to a band-aid on the back of his head]

Episode 3: Parity

  • A voice transmitter that looks like a necklace.
  • Sonic wave emitter that looks like a Spanish coin. The activator looks like a pen.
  • A remote modem.

Episode 4: A Broken Heart

  • Parabolic microphone that looks like a purse. Also eliminates unwanted sounds.
  • Memorable Marshall moment: "Let's say that you were in some wind, you know, like a light breeze, like a [whistles]. Or even a strong wind, like, a gust, like a [blows air]. This? Nothing. Silent."

Episode 5: Doppelganger

  • A business-card like device that can override a computer's CPU to make the network think you are the system administrator.
  • Memorable Marshall moment: "Even Sony would be like, well, Marshall, this is pretty cool."

Episode 6: Reckoning

  • A coding machine that takes a speck of skin from your finger and creates a code based on your DNA.
  • Memorable Marshall moment: [panicking when he discovers there is a hacker in their network] "Got to cut the hard line!"

Episode 7: Color Blind

  • No gadgets in this episode, unless you count Marshall's inflatable couch.
  • Memorable Marshall moment: "Want to have a seat? I got a minor form of scoliosis, so the air ergonimically hugs me. [hugs himself] Oh, you want to stretch out? I can inflate the couch."

Episode 8: Time Will Tell

  • No gadgets in this episode, but Marshall discovers the secret behind the Rambaldi clock.
  • Memorable Marshall moment: "That sound that you're hearing - you know that boom? That's my mind blowing."

Episode 9: Mea Culpa

  • A device that sucks all the information from the computer hard drive right into the internal flash ram. [Just place it on or near the computer hard drive.]
  • Biometric sensor that looks like a cell phone. Lifts the fingerprint off of any smooth surface, digitizes it, and then creates a liquid latex duplicate.
  • Memorable Marshall moment: "Looks like a normal phone that you'd call. [puts it to his ear] Hi, you want to go out on Friday? No? Okay. That's fine."

Episode 10: Spirit

  • A camera that looks like sunglasses.
  • A keycard system unscrambler that looks like a cell phone.
  • Memorable Marshall moment: "Now, not only do they take pictures silently and have a telephoto lens, but -- [he models them] they're super-swank."

Episode 11: The Confession

  • High-resolution retina scanner that looks like sunglasses.
  • Silicone and fluoropolymer compound that creates a set of contact lenses that the retina reader will accept.
  • Memorable Marshall moment: He tries to make conversation by mentioning a monkey documentary that he watched the night before.

Episode 12: The Box, Part 1

  • Memorable Marshall moment: Marshall tries to help Sydney and gets knocked out when one of Cole's men hits him over the head with his gun.

Episode 13: The Box, Part 2

  • Memorable Marshall moment: "Hey, Sloane gave me the finger!"

Episode 14: The Coup

  • A bug that looks like a ring.
  • A razor prism that cuts directly into any fiber optic cable without disruption to the system.
  • Memorable Marshall moment: "Casino security is like an onion. It's layer after layer after layer and the more that you peel back, the more you want to cry."

Episode 15: Page 47

  • Memorable Marshall moment: Marshall rambles on about the possible conspiracy of Eliza Dolittle from My Fair Lady and Dr. Dolittle.

Episode 16: The Prophecy

  • This episode is 100% Marshall-free!

Episode 17: Q & A

  • We get to see a recap of Marshall's gadgets.

Episode 18: Masquerade

  • Earrings that emit an infrared pulse. Use with IR-capable contacts to view a red pulse invisible to the naked eye.
  • Memorable Marshall moment:
    Marshall gets hives.

Episode 19: Snowman

  • Active noise control which emits an out of phase audio signal that cancels out any sound within a two hundred foot radius.
  • Memorable Marshall moment:
    (Plays some soft music) "2DBs. 0.05DBs is closer to, like, a sound of a cockroach rubbing his legs together. You know... reeer, reeeer..."

Episode 20: The Solution

  • Memorable Marshall moment: (When Sloane catches him making a pop-up book during work hours) "That's a pop-up book. Making them clears my mind. It helps me -- feel free to dock me any amount you feel is... "

Episode 21: Rendezvous

  • Cardiac event recorder that looks like a friendship ring.
  • Memorable Marshall moment: (to Sydney) "You could say it's a friendship ring. Something to signify platonic intimacy between two girls, or a guy and a girl. Which a lot of people say is impossible, that a guy and a girl can -- but we're friends."

Episode 22: Almost Thirty Years

  • No Marshall gadgets in this episode.
